Managing a Windows 2008 Server Core installation remotely using Server Administration Tools

You may remember your favorite administration tools “adminpak.msi.”, which was available in Windows 2003 Server for remote administration. Remote Server administration on Windows Server 2008 almost similar to adminpak.msi administration tools which was available on Windows 2003 Server. If you have administrative privileges, you can login from any remote server using the administrative tools to manage a Windows 2008 Server Core. Following example shows how to run Event Viewer snap-in from a remote full Windows 2008 installation.

Similarly you can use other Administrative tools also to manage Windows 2008 Server Core computer.

1) Open the Event Viewer MMC console from a Windows 2008 full installation. Event Viewer MMC console is available in Administrative Tools.

2) Click Action > Connect to Another Computer.

3) Select the Windows 2008 Server Core computer by entering the IP address. Click "OK" to connect to Windows 2008 Server Core computer.

4) Now you are connected to Windows 2008 Server Core computer (SCORE-01.omnisecu.pvt). You can now view and manage events on remote Windows 2008 Server Core computer.
