Introduction to Disk Quotas

Disk quotas are extremely useful in system administration and it is used to specify how much disk space a user is allowed to use on NTFS volumes. Before using Disk Quotas, you should be aware of the following facts about quotas.

Disk quotas is helpful when users start storing their personal files (music, movies etc) on file servers. We can limit the disk usage by implementing Disk Quotas.

• Disk quotas can be specified only for NTFS volumes.

• Disk usage is calculated based on the file and folder ownership.

• Disk quotas apply only at the volume level.

• Disk quota space used is based on actual file size. Compressed file size is not calculated.
