Introduction to Offline Files and Folders

Offline Files and Folders is a feature which synchronizes files and folders when users connect to and disconnect from the network. This feature is extremely useful for mobile users. Offline Files gives mobile users access to their files when they are not connected to the enterprise network and ensures that they are always working with the most current version of the files. Offline Files and Folders feature is also useful when the network is facing temporary technical problems.

When Offline Files and Folders feature is enabled, it caches files specified for offline in a database on the local hard disk of the local computer. If the network resource becomes unavailable, a message appears in the notification area. Changes made to the file while offline are saved locally, and then synchronized when the network resource becomes available again.
