IPv6 Special Addresses and IPv6 well known prefixes

Following table lists important IPv6 addresses (special addresses) which are reserved for particular tasks and well known IPv6 prefixes.

IPv6 Address Description

0000:0000:0000:0000:0000:0000:0000:0000/0 (simplified into ::/0)
Known as IPv6 unspecified address. Network interfaces will use this IPv6 address during the process of stateful IPv6 address configuration using DHCP
0000:0000:0000:0000:0000:0000:0000:1/128 (simplified into ::1/128) IPv6 Loopback address.
IPv6 addresses between prefixes 2000::/3 and 3FFF::/3 Global Unicast Addresses
IPv6 addresses with prefixes FE80::/10 Link Local IPv6 Addresses
IPv6 addresses with prefixes FC00::/8 and FD00::/8 Unique Local IPv6 Addresses
IPv6 addresses with prefixes FF00::/8 Multicast IPv6 Addresses
