How to turn-off showing recently used files and frequently used folders in Quick access

In previous lesson, we had learned about Quick access feature in Windows Server 2022. Apart from pinned folders, Quick access feature can also show recently used files and frequently used folders. By default, Windows Explorer shows recently used files and frequently used folders. This default behavior of Windows Explorer, showing recently used files or frequently used folders in Quick access view, may cause privacy related issues.

If you wish to turn-off (hide) recently used files and frequently used folders in Quick access, you may do it in Folder Options dialog box. To open Windows Explorer Folder Options dialog box, click View from File Explorer’s menu bar, then Options and then click Change folder and search options menu. Please refer below image.

There are two settings related with the privacy of Windows Server 2022 Quick access view. Privacy related settings of the Quick access view are at the bottom of the General tab of the Folder Options dialog box. Those two settings are listed below.

  • Show recently used files in Quick access
  • Show frequently used folders in Quick access

If you wish to hide recently used files or frequently used folders in Quick access, because of any privacy related issues, uncheck both checkboxes, click Apply button and then click OK button, as shown in below image.
