How to collapse Excel Ribbon

If you cannot find Excel Ribbon in your Excel program window, do not panic. It could be collapsed (hidden).

If you need more space in Excel window for worksheet area, you can collapse (hide) Excel Ribbon. Later when required, you may show (also called as "Pin") Excel Ribbon.

Please note below points.

• When Excel Ribbon is at collapsed state, Tab names are still visible. Only Ribbon Groups and Commands are hidden.

• When Excel Ribbon is at collapsed state, a single click on any Ribbon Tab name will make the clicked Tab visible. Pressing "Esc" key will make the Ribbon hidden again.

• When Excel Ribbon is at collapsed state, a double click on any Ribbon Tab name will recover the Ribbon from collapsed state.

You can collapse (hide) Excel Ribbon using different methods as explained below.

Using keyboard shortcut

Easiest way is to collapse (hide) Excel Ribbon is to use keyboard shortcut.

Press "Ctrl" + "F1" keys together to collapse (hide) Excel Ribbon. When at collapsed state, press "Ctrl" + "F1" keys together again to recover Excel Ribbon from collapsed state.

Using "Collapse the Ribbon" button

Another way to collapse (hide) Excel Ribbon is by using "Collapse the Ribbon" button. "Collapse the Ribbon" button is located at the lower right corner of Excel Ribbon as shown in below image.

Click the "Collapse the Ribbon" button to hide Excel Ribbon.

When Excel Ribbon is at collapsed state, single click any Ribbon Tab to make that Tab visible. Click "Pin the ribbon" button located at the lower right corner of Excel Ribbon to recover the Ribbon from collapsed state, as shown in below image.

Using "Ribbon Display Options" button

Another way to collapse (hide) Excel Ribbon is by using "Ribbon Display Options" button. "Ribbon Display Options" button is shown in below image.

When you click on "Ribbon Display Options" button, a drop-down menu is displayed as shown below.

There are three options available in "Ribbon Display Options" drop-down button.

1) "Auto-hide Ribbon" : Use "Auto-hide Ribbon" option to Auto-hide Excel-Ribbon. If you click "Auto-hide Ribbon" Excel window will change maximized state. Click on top horizontal bar to display Excel Ribbon.

2) "Show Tabs" : Use "Show Tabs" options to show Tabs only (collapsed state)

3) "Show Tabs and Commands" : Use "Show Tabs and Commands" options to show Tabs and Ribbon commands.

Another way to collapse (hide) Excel Ribbon is by right-clicking anywhere on Excel Ribbon and then selecting "Collapse the Ribbon", as shown in below image.

When Excel Ribbon is at collapsed state, right-click anywhere on Excel Ribbon Tab and select "Collapse the Ribbon" and remove check mark to make Excel Ribbon visible again.
